"...like the unwinding of a rope"

The book manuscript consists of two parts. Part 1, by Christoph Jedan, links the contemporary discussion on free will and determinism with the ancient tradition of determinism in the Stoics and, arguably, in Aristotle. Part 2, by Niko Strobach, develops a new brand of combined temporal and modal logic for determinism with semi-epistemic modal operators inspired by Pierre Simon de Laplace's famous  simile of the perfectly informed demon. It allows for a precise formal elaboration of the quite informative imagery of possible world histories as film-reels, which is also interesting for indeterminists (like the author).
